Tommy, καν γιου χήρ μη?

My sister sent me this email today:

In the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey show her guest was Tommy Hilfiger.
On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true. Statements like: "If I'd known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish , Greeks would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people." His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES". Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show.

My thoughts:
a) I never liked his clothes anyway. He'll never be Ralph Lauren
b) Who is his PR Manager?

Marietta,
If you go to snopes.com and type in Hilfiger's name, you'll see that no such event ever took place and that it's an urban legend.
I got the same email more than two years ago.
All that said, I still don't like his clothes. :)

I don't think I have ever heard about this. If it is true then so be it. I'm not too fond of his clothes line myself.

Anyway, I hate to tell him that Greeks ARE white people, or does he not know his geography. Greece was in Europe last time I looked.:)

Now my brain is all messed up. I just read the post and am outraged but then I read what Anne-Marie said but I still can't get it out of my brain. I'm a weirdo.

Hey Sweets!

Oh yes, this story first surfaced back in the late 90's. It seems to find it's way back every few years. Weird that it is such a big legend, thank god it never really happened!

I hope that you are doing well, I'm really looking forward to seeing you at BG's chat!

I don't buy his clothes. I don't watch Oprah. I think this story is like the gerbil and the actor story.

I don't know what to believe anymore.
If this is indeed an urban legend, I feel like a buffoon!

But then, there's no smoke without fire...

I certainly hope he didn't say anything like that - it would be hard to believe that someone who depends on a good image to sell his clothing would say something so ridiculous! Then again, you never know what to believe these days.

Don't feel bad about it. Your intentions were good. I am sure Tommy has not lost any sleep over the matter.

Dear Marietta

I don't like to pay attention to gossip.

Although, I always like to hear some juicy tidbits, I'm only human!
LOL

As long as the clothes fit, I'll wear them - I have no T H clothes...
LOL

Take care.
Love
Dale

Never heard this one before. I can't imagine anyone being that stupid. But, I am often surprised by levels of stupidity. Have a great day!

Hi Marietta, hope that you are well. One can't believe anything these days. There are so many urban myths around. We're moving over the next week so it's a busy time for us. Will try to join everyone in the chat room Sunday. What do you think about Simon T 'Blogging Off'? He must be busy. Hope that you are not overdoing it at work. Take care. Mark

Hm, whether or not it's true, makes you think: how many people in the publicity avoid saying things like these only because they are politically correct and have good PR people?

it was nice "meeting" you today!

MTV put on a tv show a few years back, it was called "Rich Girls". Hilfiger's clueless, talentless daughter was on it with her best friend. These two girls have everything and they are miserable, with no direction. Hilfiger gave them an opportunity to come in a view his new line of women's clothes and in front of the actual designers allowed them to basically trash the blood sweat and tears of the entire design team. Money is great and all but it isn't everything.

I've heard Tommy himself is a very kind and giving person though, does a lot for charity.

Hope you are doing well and not working too hard. Off to a busy Monday myself. Ciao'
