Bad mood :o(

My bosses won't give in. They want me to work on New Year's Day, which means I'll miss the Vienna Concert, which I've been watching every year, only for the past 25 years, or since I can remember myself.
It's like a tradition for me, like my lucky charm to make it a Happy New Year.
I can time the video to tape it, but it won't be the same.
I always call home when the first notes of "The Blue Danube" are heard and we cry all together, my mother, sister and me.

If you have never watched it before, do it this year. It's around 11 am GMT, most European countries show it at the same time, I'm sure it will be shown in the USA as well some time, look for it!
It is always a live broadcast from the magical Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by a famous music conductor.
It's a spectacular show, if you have the chance, don't miss it. 'Cause I will...

So back to my miserable New Year's Day. I'll be working from 11:30am to 6pm.
When the concert will be starting, I'll be on the bloody bus to work... Aaaaarggggghhhhhh!!!!
I had asked for the day off a month ago, but they didn't respect my plea.
And today I was explaining that I have plans, that it will be difficult for me to come to work, due to train delays et.c and their reply was:
"Sorry, it's Sale time and we need you..."
Well, I know it's going to be completely dead, no one will come to the store, and they know it too, so I don't know what's got into them.

I've never asked anything like that before. I'm always the last to chose my holiday dates and I would say I'm a workoholic. I'm the first to arrive and the last to go most of the times. And I never complain.
But this time I'm going to nag nag nag them until they give me the day off!
Next year I'll book the day two months in advance...
Because I have BIG plans: if I'm lucky (it's by ballot) I might be in Vienna, in that Concert Hall!!!

Dear Marietta

I'm sorry to hear that your bosses won't give in to your request for New Year's Day off.
I have never seen the Vienna Concert, but I will keep my eyes open for it.
We are planning a quiet New Year's Eve & going skiing early the next day. That way we'll beat the holiday (aka hangover) crowds.
We went skiing today & it was so busy we had to park in the overflow lot. It's so far away that they have a bus service from that parking lot to the hill.
We don't usually ski over the holidays just because of the crowds.
We are spoiled & used to having the hill to ourselves.
I have to go to work tomorrow & Friday, but I've had a great 5 days off in a row.
I hope you find a way to see the concert. It would be on our TV at about 6 pm our time, so we might be lucky.

Love
Dale

Aww Marietta,
I'm sorry you'll have to miss your concert and be at work. Could you start developing a nagging cough, cough, hack, hack...between now and then? ;)

Cheers,
AM

Marietta,

I'm really sorry to hear that your bosses are being asses:( I have my fingers crossed for you, that you will be able to have the day off. I understand what you are going through, my previous job was like that. Hang in there, & keep the faith, there has got to be some way around it!

Take Care!

P.S. It sounds like something that I would enjoy, I'm going to for sure check for it here in the states!

Sorry to hear this M. Maybe a TV at work or a fake illness is in order. Take your cell to work and call home and share it over the cell phone. I don't come from a very tight knit family. I have always wanted that though. Sharon's family is very tight knit. We will watch it for you. I hope something changes so you may carry on the tradition.

Poo to H thats what I say! I don't approve of sickies but just sometimes one simply has no choice my dear!!! Failing that maybe you could be just a tiny bit late for work and at least see some of it and ring your mum. OR (good idea coming up!) Nip to the nearest hotel in your break and watch a bit there??? OR get to work in good time, FEEL REALLY SICK/ILL/FAINT and get sent home, only don't actually go home just go and watch it somewhere near,
:o) Jill xxx

ps Mark sends his regards and says he will get back to posting soon

Marietta,
I have an idea!
Tell your boss that New Years is a Greek religious holiday. Which it is... It is St Vasilli's (sp).
Just a thought;)
I will think of you on that day. I too will be working as it is Sunday and according to the hospital I work at, New years day is Jan 2nd. I love the way they change the calandar to suit their needs.
Have a very happy 2006!!!

Marietta, if I were your boss, I'd be signing off on your vacation request post haste.

I'm sorry you're going to miss the concert, sounds like they run you ragged.

Hey.. maybe Rachel will hire you as her personal assistant, and hire me as her piano polisher, guitar tuning guy and we can tour the world with Pete & Rog..

We can dream can't we?

SO sorry hon about your missing the concert live! That sucks!!

To make them know you mean business you should ask for it off ON New Years. Tell them you are planning to see the Vienna Concert IN Vienna! LOL then in case you DO go you can be truthful and if you can't well....at least you have the day off and you had a change in plans ROFL!

I am not sure what we are doing yet. We are invited to two parties but I seriously want to sleep! Too much going on the following day as well as the day after! Perhaps I should call you ! Yes I shall call you to cheer you up!

Till the New Years!
Ciao Bella!

X-M.
